Bio
Gerald Mouland is a landscape painter residing in Uxbridge, Ontario; his aims are to capture his surroundings both at home in Canada and through travel. His painting style borders realism with broad painterly brush strokes.
Born and raised on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Known for its dramatic coastal views coupled with forested hills, this was the backdrop which first drew Gerald to landscape painting as a child. Inspiration is taken from his experiences and connection to nature.
Gerald prefers to start each painting with a plein air study, which often inform larger works back at his studio. This allows him to better capture the fleeting light and shadow, connecting the painting to a moment. He uses a plein air box of his own design, made from birch which allows him to carry 10”x12” wet panels.
Gerald has a BFA in Visual Arts. He studied at Memorial University of Newfoundland: Grenfell where he focused on oil painting among other disciplines.
